Collecting in Europe

Fighting food waste and getting food
to the people who need it

Surpluses of agricultural produce and of retail trade as well as overproduction
in thefood processing industry cause that a large amount of food, which could be
consumed, to be withdrawn from sale.
Complying with all food health and safety requirements, Food Banks of Europe fight
waste by picking up food provided free of charge by:
- farmers, processing plants, wholesalers, importers, retailers etc.
- national and European public authorities
- civic organizations which organize local, voluntary food collection drives.

Tapping good will and
channeling it efficiently

The Food Banks of Europe are logistics specialists ;
they organize:
- transport of the food collected
- sorting and storage
- quality control
- monitoring of the cold chain
- inventory management

« As long as men go hungry,
I will fight. »

Sharing in Europe

The distribution of food is carried out by voluntary associations which fight hunger
on the ground.

The Food Banks sign agreements with local humanitarian or charity organizations
and distribute the food collected to them.

This food aid is always tailored to the needs of the recipients:
- food is made available on the premises of associations;
- meals are served in welcome centers or distributed on the street to the homeless;
- "open house meals", in which the recipients share meals with volunteer workers,
  are served in friendly, convivial surroundings where recipients also find warmth,
  comfort, support and assistance to help them overcome their ordeal;
- food stores are run and stress recipient autonomy and self-esteem, in a learning
  environment.

when you give your possessions.
It is when you give yourself
that you truly give. »
