The 5th edition of Tournai’s duck race was a resounding success, breaking all previous records with 7,120 plastic ducks launched into the Escaut — all in support of the local food bank in Tournai, in Belgium.
This popular event, held as part of the Escaut Festival, has grown steadily in impact and community engagement. Last year, the organisers handed the food bank a cheque for around €15,000. Since the very first edition, a total of €50,000 has been donated to this cause.
A festive atmosphere filled the riverbanks, where around 2,500 spectators gathered to watch the colourful race unfold in a beautiful setting under sunny skies.
The funds raised contribute directly to the fight against food insecurity, supporting vital operations of the local food bank — a cause now firmly embedded in the hearts of Tournai’s citizens. The event has clearly become a fixture on the calendar for people in Tournai.
