What we do - Activities and Impact



FEBA conducts three core activities, all of them aiming at adding value to the work of its membership:


In 2020 the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) worked in collaboration with 24 Full Members and 5 Associate Members in European countries.

FEBA Full Members brought together 335 Food Banks which were committed to prevent food waste and to reduce food insecurity. They redistributed 860,000 tons of food to 12.8 million most deprived people through 48.126 charitable organizations thanks to the professionalism of 37,016 co-workers (85% volunteers).

In addition to surplus food from food business operators, FEBA members also redistributed food from the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) and national programmes, the EU Fruits and Vegetables withdrawal scheme, as well as from individual and corporate donations through food collections.*

But also much for than that. Food Banks create value for:

  • end beneficiaries who are saving money as a result of getting food from our charity members.
  • partner charities which save money and time, by receiving food for free, which they instead can re-direct to improving their services to the people they support. Food Banks often offer them training.
  • companies which donate products, Food Banks give them the opportunity to reduce the costly disposal of their surpluses with its negative impact on the environment and on their reputation.
  • communities they live in, Food Banks encourage the involvement of volunteers and deliver social cohesion by facilitating cooperation between public and private organizations.




*This is the aggregation of data provided by FEBA Full Members at European level. Due to technical difficulties the number of beneficiaries, food quantities and co-workers in 2020 were not available for Tafel Deutschland e.V. (Germany). These numbers are replaced with data 2019.
