“We are really proud of this award. It is a public acknowledgment of the hard work employees and volunteers are doing in the Food Banks and social services. We also want to thank the European Food Banks Federation for their huge support on a professional and personal level. The unity of FEBA helps us to learn and grow.” Says Veronika Láchová, CEO of the Czech Federation of Food Banks.
Last year, the Czech Federation of Food Banks participated in the introduction of an amendment to the Food Act, which included a "mandatory donation" of food. To put the amendment into practice, it required to apply the foreign established practices to the Czech conditions, in cooperation with local stakeholders, Food Banks and the social sphere. The Czech Federation of Food Banks helped set up many relationships and supported and led the Food Banks to meet key hygiene and veterinary standards.
The newly established cooperation has proven to be viable and has enabled the promotion of new projects to fight food waste. In 2018, with the introduction of the Food Act, three times more food was saved and over 100,000 people were supported by more than 8 million meals in Czech Republic. The Food Banks have also been able to obtain State and Public support, which made a significant contribution to their development and to the development of food rescue and distribution infrastructures.
