On 22 August our President, Jacques Vandenschrik, participated in the conference “Economic solidarity is convenient for the country” within the programme of the Rimini Meeting 2019.
With the moderation of Marco Lucchini, Secretary General of Banco Alimentare Onlus Foundation, a high-level panel of speakers discussed and shared their views: Stefano Berni, General Director of the Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano; Vitaliy Novikov, CEO of Coca Cola HBC Italy; Corrado Passera, Founder and President of Illimity Bank.
Jacques Vandenschrik presented the mission and activities of the European Food Banks Federation and gave a concrete overview of how Food Banks daily contribute to economic solidarity: food that has no economic value and would be thrown away gains a new solidarity value through the donation to people in need. Often in silence, Food Banks support charities and the most vulnerable people, respecting their dignity and feeding their basic needs. As Pope Francis said at the private audience with the members of FEBA on 18 May: “You get involved not with words, but with real life, because you are fighting against food wastage, salvaging what would have gone to waste. You take what is thrown into the vicious cycle of waste and insert it into the “virtuous circle” of good use.”
