What is FEBA?
Founded in 1986 and based in Brussels, Belgium, FEBA is the acronym for the Fédération Européenne des Banques Alimentaires, now known
as the European Food Banks Federation. FEBA is a nonprofit organisation that combats food waste and insecurity across Europe. The organisation’s mission is to:
- Prevent food waste by collecting surplus food from producers, retailers, and wholesalers
- Reduce food insecurity by redistributing this food to those in need through a network of member food banks and charitable organisations
- Advocate for policies that advance food security, social inclusion and the reduction of food waste
- Enlarge and strengthen the food bank movement across Europe through a measurable-oriented approach
In 2024, FEBA worked in collaboration with 25 Full Members and 5 Associate Members in 30 European countries and redistributed approximately 834,000 tonnes of food to over 12 million people.
