On 16 October, Magyar Élelmiszerbank Egyesület and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) once again joined forces for the annual World Food Day Donation Convoy in Budapest.
This year, over twenty trucks carrying food donations travelled through the city, highlighting the value of food, the importance of preventing food waste and the need to ensure that good-quality food reaches people who need it.
The convoy delivered a total of 55 tonnes of donated products, including pasta, canned vegetables, cold cuts, baby food, pickles and ready meals. These donations were transported to food bank federation’s central warehouse and will be redistributed through family support services, elderly care centres, child protection institutions and other charitable organisations, reaching around 11,000 people in need across Hungary.
The initiative demonstrates the importance of long-term cooperation between food businesses, civil society and public institutions. Over its 21-year history, the World Food Day Donation Convoy has helped distribute approximately 181,000 food packages to Hungarian families.
