Food insecurity is a clear issue that demands a clear voice. We’ve refined every aspect of FEBA’s identity through the Elevating Narratives project, making sure our mission is unified across every platform we touch. A cornerstone of this effort is the Stories Collection initiative, which shines a spotlight on the people who power our network—from our dedicated staff to the volunteers who make up 92% of our workforce. They are our cause’s heart. We’re interviewing them to ensure their, our, stories are told.
Between December and January, FEBA started the project using Belgium as a pilot, visiting the Brussels Food Bank, followed by the charity organisation, Chez Nous.
The interview targets of the shoot day at the Brussels food bank were the management team, a dedicated staff member, and our CEO, Esteban. Our goal was to understand the motivation that drives these individuals to sort food, manage the warehouse, handle accounting, and tackle physically demanding tasks. We want to save the best for our forthcoming video report, where all these powerful stories will be shared in full, but our team was deeply moved by the desire to contribute to something meaningful that we have found in the answers of every single person we engaged with.
We experienced that same warmth during our day at Chez Nous, a smaller organisation in the heart of the city that touched us profoundly. It is a place where vulnerable individuals—from young refugees to Belgian retirees— come for a warm plate and a sense of community, finding comfort in the knowledge that a supportive system is looking out for them. During this visit, we interviewed our communications manager, Mariana, the head of Chez Nous, several volunteers, and a beneficiary.
We look forward to sharing more from this enriching project soon. We hope this preview and the photo gallery below illustrate the tangible impact and the incredible human capital that define food banks and their partner organisations.
