The Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) has celebrated in Madrid the awards ceremony Espiga de Oro 2025, which marks its 22nd edition this year and coincides with the 30th anniversary of the organisation, bringing together companies, institutions, and volunteers committed to the fight against food poverty. The recent Espiga de Oro event served as a celebration of collective action, joined by FEBA President Bernard Valluis. Valluis attended in support of the Spanish federation’s enduring leadership and the deep-rooted social dedication that continues to combat food waste and hunger across the region.
ESBAL President Pedro Llorca Llinares reminded the audience that the movement’s true strength lies in its people—both the tireless volunteers and the dedicated supporters. This sentiment was brought to life during one of the event’s most moving segments: the presentation of the Gold Spike (Espiga de Oro) awards. These honours were granted to seven volunteers once part of FESBAL, serving as a profound tribute to their years of service and dedication. In his opening address, Llinares shared:
“Thirty years after that beginning, here we are: stronger, more coordinated, and more committed than ever. You make the miracle of solidarity possible… the crucial role of volunteers, the generosity of Spanish society, and the silent work of Food Banks in responding to economic crises, health emergencies, and growing inequalities.“
