Food Bank Albania has been invited as a field expert to contribute to designing and implementing local food policies and developing more sustainable food systems in the Municipality of Tirana. The organization’s expertise in food waste management, supply chain optimization, and food loss reduction positions it as a key actor in this process.
The initiative started on January 29, 2026, and is being implemented in the Municipality of Tirana, including rural areas connected to small farmers and local markets. It aims to create inclusive and sustainable food systems by integrating best practices in food management, developing short supply chains, and promoting local farmers’ markets.
Main objectives of the initiative:
• Strengthening direct links between local producers and communities in need.
• Reducing food loss and waste through optimized collection, storage, and distribution processes.
• Increasing access to healthy food for marginalized communities.
• Supporting small-scale farmers and local markets to promote local economic development.
The role of Food Bank Albania:
The food bank provides direct expertise, practical support, and guidance to project partners in developing and implementing best practices in food management.
