How the French Food Bank Is Drawing Attention to Mental Health Information Weeks

he Federation Francaise des Banques Alimentaires’s recent focus, highlighted during the Mental Health Information Weeks (October 6-19, 2025), underscores a troubling reality: precariousness profoundly exacerbates mental health challenges.

By joining the Mental Health Collective – Great National Cause 2025, the Federation Francaise des Banques Alimentaires becomes the first and only food aid association to partner in this major national mobilisation. This recognition values the network’s global approach that uses food aid as a lever for inclusion and well-being.

FFBA’s recent focus, highlighted during the Mental Health Information Weeks (October 6-19, 2025), underscores a troubling reality: financial hardship and insecurity create much greater mental health burdens.

A concerning 22% of individuals supported by the French Food Banks report psychological discomfort, a figure that alarmingly rises to 28% among young beneficiaries. The obstacles are stark and multifaceted:

  • Economic Barriers: As one beneficiary stated, accessing psychological support often forces an impossible choice between necessary healthcare and basic survival, such as eating.
  • Social Isolation: The lack of connection and supportive networks acts as a significant risk factor, deepening feelings of malaise.

All data and more details on the initiative are available on the FFBA website.

FEBA applauds the unwavering commitment of FFBA and its network of 79 Food Banks as they leverage food aid to address the critical issue of psychological malaise and social isolation among people in precarious situations.
