On 3–4 February 2026, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Food Chain Analysis Network (FCAN) convened experts and international organisations in Paris for the meeting “Indicator Needs for the Evaluation of Food Loss and Waste Reduction Strategies”.
FEBA was represented by the FEBA Impact Team, Luisa Fadel and Daniela Varga, who participated in the joint FCAN–WPEI workshop to strengthen food loss and waste (FLW) data and statistics. Exchanges centred on methodological approaches, data gaps and national practices; aiming to improve the quality, comparability and policy relevance of FLW data.
On the second day, our research officer, Luisa, contributed to the session examining how the nutrition and food security effects of FLW reduction can be assessed across the agri-food chain. She shared FEBA’s experience from its annual data collection and presented insights from the Unified Data Framework (UDF) project, highlighting how harmonised food bank data can support more robust evaluation of food security impacts.
Reliable and harmonised data are essential to designing effective, evidence-based FLW reduction policies. FEBA remains committed to supporting this effort at both European and global levels.
We extend our special thanks to the coordinators, Céline Giner, Eszter Palotai, Juan David Sáenz Henao, and Andrea Marangio, for organising this valuable platform for knowledge exchange.
