How General Mills is Nourishing Communities And Shaping Futures

Partnerships

For nearly 160 years, General Mills has been making food the world loves and doing so with purpose.  General Mills – home to beloved brands like Häagen-Dazs, Old El Paso or Nature Valley – is driven by a belief that food should delight people’s lives while strengthening the very communities it serves. The company puts its global scale and resources toward forging sustainable, resilient food systems that nourish both people and planet.

A Broader Vision for Food Waste and Hunger Relief

At the heart of General Mills’ corporate social responsibility is a strong commitment to reducing food waste and alleviating hunger on a global scale. The company advances this mission by supporting innovative food redistribution systems, reducing food waste in operations by 50% by 2030 and has already achieved zero waste-to-landfill at all owned production facilities. General Mills’ impact goes far beyond operations and into tangible impact for communities worldwide through large-scale product donations, employee volunteering, and hunger relief initiatives.

Strengthening the Backbone of FEBA

In Europe, General Mills’ philanthropic investments ensure FEBA’s operational continuity – supporting essential staff and infrastructure – and allows FEBA to scale its reach and respond agilely to evolving food insecurity challenges.

Catalyst for Collaboration & Knowledge

General Mills helps power FEBA’s flagship Annual Convention – like the 2024 gathering in Prague, which convened 119 delegates from 32 countries to address sustainability and food banking topics. Additionally, General Mills supported FEBA’s digital exchange platform, the “Knowledge Ecosystem,” helping field-level leaders share insights and best practices.

Igniting Innovation Across Europe

In 2024, General Mills co-launched the FEBA Innovation Grant, inviting bold, experimental projects across the network. Hungary’s Magyar Élelmiszerbank, Food Bank Greece, and FoodCloud Ireland were selected to pilot initiatives that reimagine food recovery and service models — Planting seeds for future impact.

Local Impact, Continental Reach

General Mills’ engagement across France, the UK, Spaon, Greece, Ireland and Switzerland reflects a multifaceted approach to tackling food insecurity. Their support has included funding for fresh food access and operational costs to keep food banks running, as well as infrastructure and logistics investments that maintain food hubs, enable vehicle rentals, and power large-scale food collection campaigns. Beyond immediate hunger relief, these efforts also advance environmental goals by reducing food waste and associated CO₂ emissions, while capacity-building programs, such as vocational training, create long-term opportunities for vulnerable groups.

Beyond Funding: Food & Hands-on Action

General Mills doesn’t stop at financial support – they give food, too. Surplus products are donated across FEBA’s network, transforming potential waste into nourishment. Meanwhile, employee volunteers roll up their sleeves for food collection drives, turning commitment into action and reminding us that meaningful change is built hand in hand

A Legacy of Impact

This strategic partnership between General Mills and FEBA is much more than philanthropy – it’s a blueprint for systemic transformation. Together, they are reducing waste, nurturing innovation, and reinforcing food security across Europe – building a future in which generosity and ingenuity flourish side by side—and where no one is left hungry.

“At General Mills, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive systemic change. Our support for FEBA goes beyond financial commitment—it reflects our desire to help build resilient, sustainable food systems across Europe,” said Charlotte Breil, External Relations Director at General Mills Europe-Australia.
