Nestlé: A Longstanding Commitment to Reducing Food Waste and Fighting Hunger

Spread the word

Nestlé is the world’s largest food and beverage company, driven by its purpose to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come. With a presence in 185 countries and a portfolio of over 2,000 brands, Nestlé is committed to advancing regenerative food systems, supporting communities, and promoting food security and sustainability across the globe.

A History of Solidarity

Nestlé has been a long-time ally in the global fight against hunger and food waste. In Europe, Nestlé has supported several members of the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA), some of which for over 20 years, donating surplus food products, fostering employee volunteering, and helping local communities access safe, nutritious food. These collaborations have formed the foundation of a strong and enduring relationship between Nestlé and food banks — built on trust, shared values, and a common goal.

Formalising a Global Commitment

In a significant step toward amplifying impact, Nestlé, alongside FEBA and our partners, The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) and Feeding America, three leading networks dedicated to hunger relief and food waste reduction. The alliance reflects Nestlé’s recognition of these organisations as trusted partners in surplus product donation and food systems sustainability.

Each partner plays a critical role:

  • FEBA supports food banks across Europe with a mission to reduce food insecurity through food waste prevention and solidarity.
  • GFN supports and strengthens food banks in over 50 countries across the globe.
  • Feeding America leads hunger relief efforts in the United States through a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs.

Nature of the Partnership

Strengthening Local and Regional Connections
Nestlé works closely with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), Feeding America, and the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) to foster strong relationships between its local markets and food bank members. This includes facilitating introductions, encouraging product donations, and supporting employee engagement through volunteering, fundraising, and in-kind initiatives. The partners collaborate to share practical tools, including non-confidential standard operating procedures and examples of effective food bank collaborations, ensuring that each new connection is built on tried-and-tested models. Nestlé also promotes internal guidance and local success stories across its markets to inspire greater engagement and consistent practices in working with food banks.

Global Impact and Transparency
The partnership emphasises transparency and data-driven impact. Each year, GFN, Feeding America, and FEBA provide Nestlé with global reporting on the scale and outcomes of product donations, helping to track progress and inform future initiatives. The partners also exchange stories and insights from food bank collaborations across different regions, fostering a shared learning environment. This global view not only showcases Nestlé’s contribution to hunger relief but also reinforces accountability and inspires continuous improvement.

Communications and Advocacy
Together, Nestlé and its food banking partners join forces to raise awareness around food access and food waste through coordinated communications and advocacy efforts. The alliance supports internal and external campaigns tied to key milestones such as World Food Day and World Hunger Day, using these moments to highlight the impact of their collaboration and mobilise support. Through storytelling and shared messaging, the partnership reinforces the urgent need to reduce food waste and build more equitable, sustainable food systems worldwide.

By leveraging each organisation’s strengths and networks, the partnership aims to scale solutions, engage employees, and mobilise resources that make a meaningful difference in communities around the world.
