On 22–23 October 2026, FEBA Member Maisto Bankas (Lithuania) warmly welcomed a delegation of colleagues from Banca de Alimente (Moldova) for a two-day Peer-to-Peer Exchange, organised with the support of the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA).
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for Moldovan colleagues to explore the Lithuanian food banking model, learn from 25 years of experience and brainstorm how successful practices could be adapted and implemented in Moldova.
Throughout the exchange, the Lithuanian team shared practical insights into their operations, including food recovery and redistribution, food rescue kitchens, the Free Food Shops model, volunteer management, fundraising and digitalisation. The programme combined discussions with practical visits to Maisto Bankas facilities in Vilnius and Kaunas, allowing participants to see the system in action.
Sofiia Vara, FEBA Project Manager, also joined the exchange, contributing to discussions on the future development of food banking in Moldova and opportunities to translate the knowledge gained into concrete steps.
More than just a study visit, the exchange became a space for sharing experiences, asking questions and exploring new possibilities. The knowledge and ideas gathered will contribute to the further development of Moldova’s food banking system, helping strengthen its capacities and expand its impact.
This exchange once again demonstrated the value of the FEBA Network: bringing Members together, sharing practical experience and turning collective knowledge into meaningful progress.
FEBA extends its sincere thanks to the Maisto Bankas team for their warm welcome, openness and willingness to share their expertise, and to Banca de Alimente Moldova for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning and development.
