Fondazione Banco Alimentare is leading the project “Take EAT Seriously – Don’t Play with Food!”, which aims to reduce consumer-related food waste in Milan, Rome, and Catania by sharing practical tools, knowledge, and interactive experiences.
The initiative focuses on household food waste, which accounts for more than 50% of all food waste generated across the food supply chain in Europe (Eurostat). The activities are designed to encourage behavioural change and raise awareness, particularly among young people.
As part of the project, Banco Alimentare has launched a playful online Food Waste Prevention Toolkit, which includes an Anti-Waste Recipe Book, a Meal Planner, advocacy flyers, videos, and a Practical Guide to Organising Food in the Fridge and Pantry.

The project has also launched a free app, The FolLoW, which helps users understand their daily food waste and improve their kitchen habits. These kinds of interactive, low-threshold activities can help food banks and food waste prevention professionals educate people and raise awareness in a more flexible and informal way.
