Banka hrane Beograd (BFB, Serbia) is one of the first participants of the FEBA Accelerator Programme, which offers tailored development initiatives to our member countries. The programme aims to support our members with structured, practical assistance to strengthen their organisational capacity and operations, with a particular focus on long-term sustainability and impact.
The development plan prepared for BFB focuses on three main areas:
- Strengthening organisational structure
- Improving the efficiency of food redistribution
- Developing corporate fundraising capacities
The objective is to build on existing strengths, such as the nationwide charity network and established relationships with major food donors, and create a more stable and scalable operating model.
The development process is designed as a multi-year journey, starting with concrete steps for the first year to lay the foundations for further growth. A key element is knowledge sharing and peer learning within the network, including direct exchanges of experience.
Peer-to-Peer Visits Support Learning Across Our Network

In this spirit, Jelena Sijan, the President of the BFB, recently visited the Hungarian Food Bank Association for a peer-to-peer visit, which is also a new FEBA initiative. During the visit, several aspects of the Hungarian Food Bank’s operations were explored, with a particular focus on best practices that could support the implementation of the Serbian development plan.
Such collaborations highlight the importance of knowledge sharing and partnerships within the FEBA network, enabling members to develop more efficiently and ultimately reach more people in need with rescued food.
