At Banca de Alimente, Christmas and Easter products do not lose their value once the holidays are over. Through a continuous recovery process, seasonal products are redirected to vulnerable people across the country, turning surplus into support during all seasons.
Between February and April 2026, Banca de Alimente recovered and distributed over 1.8 tonnes of seasonal food products, with an estimated value of approximately €33.500.
Saving Surplus is Never Out of Season
“For us, this is the true meaning of food recovery: to give quality products a second life, to reduce waste, and to turn surplus food into support for people. At Banca de Alimente alone, we collect Santa Claus chocolate as late as April, and Easter cakes can become a delicious snack that brings joy all year round. This is possible thanks to our logistics system, including our cold storage facilities and food flow management infrastructure, which allows us to safely salvage good products and redirect them to beneficiaries in optimal condition.” Oleg Paraschiv, Director of Banca de Alimente
Most of the recovered products have already been distributed through the food banking network to around 100 social services, which assist around 15.000 people.
Dignity and Joy to People in Vulnerable Situations
“Beyond their actual value, these products mean more than just numbers. The products bring a sense of dignity and normality to the recipients, who rarely have access to premium food. As they tell us, they see them on television, in adverts on social media, and rarely dare to pay them any attention on shop shelves, knowing they couldn’t afford them. By working with donors and partners, we do our utmost to ensure that these seasonal products can continue their mission beyond the festive season, where the need is real and where they are a true luxury.” Oleg Paraschiv
Banca de Alimente has been an associate member of FEBA since 2022. From the start of the year to date, the organisation has collected approximately 60.000 kg of food, equivalent to 120.000 meals.
