14 million kilograms of food collected in a weekend

On November 24, 25 and 26 November 2023, the “Gran Recogida” took place in Spain, the most important solidarity event of the year that mobilizes the entire Spanish society in a single weekend in the fight against poverty, food and which this year celebrates its 11th edition.

The Gran Recogida promoted by FESBAL, contributes to people who have seen their situation worsened by the 10% increase in shopping basket prices (among other basic expenses), to be able not only to feed their family adequately but also feed their lives. That is the concept of the slogan of the advertising campaign “Feed a better life” that has had some exceptional ambassadors: the world-renowned chef, Karlos Arguiñano and his son Joseba Arguiñano.

The campaign has been developed in 11,000 food stores spread throughout the country in different modalities: donation of non-perishable physical products or making monetary donations at the checkout lines. To encourage citizen participation, there have been more than 70,000 volunteers at the doors of establishments providing information on ways to participate.

Once again, the entire society has been involved in this initiative in which all large national distribution chains, regional food chains, companies, media, companies and individuals and families have participated who have participated with their donations or volunteering.

The campaign, pending data closing, has raised 14 million kilos that will provide the Food Bank warehouses with enough merchandise to serve the charitable entities that come daily for food.
