FEBA engages with European Commission on tackling food insecurity

On 23 May 2025, FEBA CEO Esteban Arriaga and Head of Policy and Network Development Aurore Mourette met with Miron Podgorean, member of the cabinet of European Commission Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu, to discuss FEBA’s role in reducing food poverty across the European Union and explore potential avenues for collaboration.

One of the key discussion points was FEBA’s position paper towards the forthcoming EU Anti-Poverty Strategy. The paper outlines FEBA’s recommendations to ensure that food aid and material support are recognized as essential elements of a rights-based approach to poverty reduction. It emphasizes the need for integrated, cross-sectoral strategies that combine immediate relief with long-term measures to foster inclusion and resilience.

The meeting reaffirmed FEBA’s commitment to supporting EU efforts in lifting people out of poverty and addressing food insecurity, particularly as the EU moves toward its 2030 targets under the European Pillar of Social Rights.
