Food Donation sub-group

The session started with interesting discussions on the results of the assessment of the food redistribution landscape, identifying challenges and opportunities for the different actors along the food supply chain. This was followed by interventions from Balázs Cseh, President of Magyar Élelmiszerbank Egyesület, FEBA Member in Hungary, on the topics of recovery of surplus food from the HORECA sector as well as  the potential of carbon credits.

FEBA made an intervention explaining the legal framework and process of surplus fishdonation with a focus on the recovery and redistribution of confiscated fish, showing the example of Banco Alimentare, FEBA Member in Italy. The last topic on the agenda was the revision of the EU Marketing Standards applied to fruits and vegetables- the amended provisions with reference to food donation are already in force from 23 November 2023.
