Maisto bankas received 258,000 food products during Spring Food Collection

On 15 and 16 March, Maisto bankas (FEBA Member in Lithuania) organised its annual Spring Food Collection in 74 locations across the country, involving 256 charitable organisations and 7,400 volunteers.

The Mayors of many Municipalities became ambassadors for this year’s Food Collection, which was directly supported by thousands of Lithuanians who purchased and donated around 258,000 shelf-stable food items worth approximately EUR 356,000. The product received in the highest quantity was pasta, followed by oil. For the latter, an increase of over 40% in comparison to 2023 could be reported, which is an important development given the substantial demand for this product.

Food Collections are an essential activity of European Food Banks, inviting citizens to make a gesture of solidarity and offer the extremely important opportunity to collect staple food products while raising awareness among the citizens about food waste and food insecurity.
