For the entire last year, Banca de Alimente in Moldova handled more than 360 tonnes of food and hygiene products.

More than 80% of those products were donated products for humanitarian aid or purchased and packaged products. These products were redistributed to 89 centres that welcome refugees from Ukraine. More than 40,000 people were reached through these venues. In addition, approximately 23,000 parcels with food and hygiene products were redistributed to more than 9,000 Ukrainian families in 22 different locations in the Republic of Moldova.

This amounts to approximately 50,000 Ukrainians in total that were supported by Banca de Alimente in Moldova in the last year, almost half of the overall Ukrainian refugee population in the country, on top of the average charitable organisation helping people in need in the country.

In 2022, Banca de Alimente was able to purchase a new vehicle as well as to reinforce the infrastructure, including the digitalisation of food donations to manage both incoming and outgoing donations, to automatically issue and read invoices, and to control the available stocks in the warehouse.

Increasing the number and quality of our vehicles does not just imply an improvement from a logistics point of view. It allows us to do more, especially when facing such increasingly tough challenges.” said Igor Belei, President of Banca de Alimente.
