Corona emergency aid program set up by Wiener Tafel

Wiener Tafel is reacting to the Covid-19 crisis and changing its system: from now on, groceries are delivered via contactless goods transfer in the Tafel Haus passed on to social institutions at the Vienna wholesale market. Food donations for people in poverty are more urgently needed than ever during this time.

The Corona crisis presents to Wiener Tafel an immense challenge: donations in kind reduced, volunteers can no longer help since they belong to the risk group due to their age and the entire Wiener Tafel operation must be re-organized to protect everyone’s health.

The process of contactless food distribution developed in the past two weeks has already been successfully tested in the first trial runs. The distribution of goods – the process itself as well as the preparation and implementation – runs according to a strict implementation plan including detailed hygiene measures. This should minimize social contacts and the security of goods delivered can be guaranteed.

“We are currently observing that the new process in piloting social services is very well received. We therefore want this contactless delivery of goods in the coming weeks to be maintained or even expanded further” describes Alexandra Gruber, Managing director of the Wiener Tafel.

For this we need the support of more than ever companies and individuals, because the current crisis hits the weakest in our society. The supply of food is one of the elementary basic needs!”

The Wiener Tafel is open and ready to meet the increased need for food for the needy, showing solidarity for everyone.  “We need to support people now more than ever!” confirmed Alexandra Gruber.

For this reason, the Wiener Tafel has set up a Corona emergency aid program

Every contribution counts!
