Belgium and Netherlands stand together to help people in need

In Bergen op Zoom (Netherlands) on Friday May 15, the Ambassador of Belgium, Dirk Achten, in the presence of the Mayor Frank Petter handed over a gift of 12,000 euros to the chairman of the Food Bank.

The closing of the boundary between the Netherlands and Belgium due to the corona crisis had major consequences for people and companies on both sides. Some were particularly hard hit by this.

Meanwhile, there is a growing need for food aid: the Food Bank expects an increase of 15% for the summer. With this action, the embassy wanted to contribute to an organization in the border region, which offers assistance to those who are hardest hit by the crisis.

A healthy dynamism in the border region is very important for citizens, their prosperity and their well-being. Belgians and Dutch are standing together for this unprecedented challenge. We therefore want to highlight the situation in this border area and we hope that the situation will soon return to normal.” said Ambassador Achten.
