A successful 24th “Colletta Alimentare” in Italy

This year, due to the health emergency, Banco Alimentare rethought its bit food collection with a new modality, to be able to continue to donate food while ensuring safety. From 21/11 to 8/12, at the entrance of the supermarkets, people could collect a card with a value of 2, 5 or 10 euros that had to be presented at the cash desk in order to turn this value into food for people in need.

Once again, despite the difficulties of the moment, the food collection was the concrete manifestation of great solidarity. In fact, 2,600 tons of food were donated, equivalent to 5.2 million meals. 6,000 stores have joined the initiative.

Food products (tuna and canned meat, olive oil, baby food and baby food, biscuits, UHT milk, tomato preserves, rice, legumes) will be delivered in the coming months to over 8,000 affiliated charities, which support about 2,100,000 people in difficulty.

Thanks! – says Giovanni Bruno, President of Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus – The choice not to give up, despite adverse circumstances, to such a significant gesture that has now become a tradition for our country, has made it clear to everyone that there are no situations in which everyone cannot choose: as recalled by the words of Pope Francis, many have chosen solidarity, “the best way out of the crisis“.
